Objectives

Students will be able to use the concept of functions transformations to move the following functions left, right, up, and down from their parent function. These functions are linear, quadratic, rational, radical, and absolute value.

http://www.purplemath.com/modules/fcntrans.htm     Pay attention to how the graphs move and how the graphs reflect upside down.

http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/Alg/Transformations.aspx    Pay attention to moving graphs left, right, up, down, and reflecting them.
Use the practice problems on this site and check your answers with the solution buttons.

Lesson Instructional Video

During this lesson you need to pay attention to the following topics.

1)  What is the shape of each function.
    a)  linear
    b)  quadratic
    c)  absolute value
    d)  cubic
    e)  radical
    f)   rational

2)  How does each function move
     a)  up and down
     b)  left and right

3)  Looking ahead to Unit 3, Trig Transformations,
we will expand of how these functions move
compared to the trig functions (sine, cosine, and
     tangent functions).
