Unit Description
The Pythagorean Theorem and the trig ratios help to solve right triangles for side lengths and angle measures. Now we will explore how to find the side lengths and angle measures for all type of triangle by using the formulas of the law of sines and cosines. Then we will learn how to find the area of triangles when the height is not given by using Heron's Formula.
Unit Objectives
1. To apply the law of sine formula to find side lengths and angle measures of all types of triangles.
2. Apply the law of cosine to find the side lengths and angle measures of any type of triangles.
3. To apply and use the law of sin or law of cos formulas to solve triangles for side lengths and angle measures.
To be able to know when to use the law of sin and the law of cos correctly.
4. To verify and apply the trigonometric formula, Heron's formula, to find the area of a triangle.
